Honesdale for
the Holidays |

Historic
Honesdale offers up its famous holiday hospitality on Friday and
Saturday, November 24 and 25, during its annual Honesdale for
the Holidays. Honesdale’s fine stores will host an "Open
House" with seasonal hospitality for their shoppers and
visitors.
Honesdale’s Main Street is filled with many fine stores and
restaurants for holiday shoppers to enjoy. Shoppers will enjoy
browsing through Honesdale’s fine gift and specialty shops
including Morning Glory Gifts, The Crafter’s Village, The
Cottage (located on the corner of 7th & Church St.,
just one block off Main St.), Wallflower, The Kountry Barn, and
Country Dawn. And, don’t forget Glinsky’s Kitchen Capers,
located on W. Park Street, and Good Cheer, located at 131 Willow
Ave., (diagonally across from the supermarket,) where you’ll
find every gift you’ll need for your special pets this holiday
season.
Antique
lovers will surely want to visit Oui Three Antiques, as well as
Missing Pieces, Main Street Books, and The Collectibles Junction
(located just off Main Street, on 9th St.)
Honesdale’s merchants also offer a wide variety of other items
including fine clothing for adults and children, electronics,
appliances, jewelry, sporting goods and winter sporting
excursions, just to name a few.

The Fred
Miller Pavilion on Honesdale’s historic Main Street will be
alive with Christmas Music on Friday and Saturday with DJ Tom
Emanski from Noon to 4:00 p.m. sponsored by RE/MAX of Wayne
County and Paul Meagher, Jr. Nationwide Insurance Agency.
Friday,
November 24 will also feature Honesdale’s Annual Santa Parade.
The parade, which kicks off at 6:00 p.m., starts at Main and
Fourth Streets, proceeds up Main Street, turns right on Eleventh
Street, and proceeds to Honesdale’s Central Park. Activities in
Central Park, immediately after the parade will include the
lighting of the Star on Irving Cliff, the lighting of the
Christmas Tree in the park and Christmas Carols, all under
Santa’s twinkling eyes.
On
Saturday the 25, old fashion, horse drawn carriage rides will
depart from the corner of Main & 10th Streets (in front of the
First National Community Bank) from Noon to 4:00 p.m.. These
relaxing carriage rides around historic Honesdale will take you
back in time, and create new memories as well. Make sure to look
for Santa and his buddy Rudolph as you stroll the streets. They
may have a special treat for that good little boy or girl.
Also on Saturday, have your child's picture taken with the
Christmas Angel at Braun Wide Plank Floors, Artsticks, Objects,
located at 1037 Main Street from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. and
enjoy live music to ring in the holiday season.

The
Stourbridge Model Railroad Club will also host an "Open House"
on Saturday in the Grace Episcopal Parish Hall at 827 Church
Street from 11:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. The Model Railroad Club has
created a large HO gauge railroad display that depicts the
mythical town of "Wayne." The railroad display is truly a
delight to see.
In addition,
the newly dedicated Exhibit Hall at the Wayne County Visitor
Center in downtown Honesdale features a wonderful display
depicting the movement of coal on the Gravity Railroad and
Delaware Hudson Canal System. The Gravity Railroad and canals
were used by the Delaware and Hudson Canal Company to move coal
from the Lackawanna Valley to Kingston, New York. The Visitors
Center will be open both days from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.
The Wayne
County Historical Museum, located at 810 Main Street, right in
the center of town, features a full-scale replica of the famous
Stourbridge Lion, the first locomotive to run on a track in
America. The museum also contains many interesting photographs
from days gone by, and is open on Friday from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00
p.m. and Saturday from 10:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. They invite you
to join them for their annual open house on Saturday, beginning
at 4:00 p.m. Local author Ab Rutherford will be on-hand to
personally sign his new book “George W. Woodward – Forgotten Son
of Bethany”. |

The fun
doesn’t stop in Honesdale after this fun and special weekend!
Join us on Saturday, December 2 for Hot Chocolate and Donuts at
Papa’s Primo Pizza, located at 627 Main Street on December 2nd
from 9:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. Hay rides will also be available
for a small fee.
Also on
December 2, the local and very talented artist Trix Render, in
conjunction with Lisa B. Meszler, will offer a holiday
celebration from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at lisa b.’s, located at
1023 Main Street. Trix will present here newest paintings
entitled “Little Jewels” amidst the back drop of the lisa b.
holiday collection.
On
Saturday, December 9, it’s Breakfast Pizza with Santa, at
Elegantes Pizzeria and Restaurant, located at 851 Main St., from
9:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. Enjoy breakfast pizza, bacon, ham,
sausage, a variety of baked goods, coffee, tea, and juice, all
while visiting with Santa himself. $8.00 per adult and $6.00 per
child under 12. Seating is limited and reservations are

Honesdale’s 12th Annual Ornament Hunt will take place
on Saturday, December 16, at 10:00 am in Honesdale’s Central
Park. This popular holiday event, sponsored by Greater Honesdale
Partnership as part of its “Honesdale for the Holidays”, will
offer young children the opportunity to search for ornaments for
a chance to win a prize.
Children
will be divided into three age groups: Kindergarten and younger;
first and second graders; and third and fourth graders. Prizes
for the hunt are generously donated by greater Honesdale area
businesses.
Also on
Saturday, December 16, have your child’s picture taken with
Santa at Wayne Digital Memories, located within Marty’s Sneaker
World, 829 Main Street. Packages start at just $9.00 and will be
available for pick-up just in time for the holidays! While
there, receive a valuable discount coupon and a candy cane from
Art’s for Babies and Beyond, located just down the block at 843
Main Street.
On
Saturday and Sunday, December 16 & 17, from 11:00 a.m. to 2:00
p.m., take a little time for yourself and enjoy a scrumptious
Holiday Brunch at the Harvest Inn Bed & Breakfast, located at
1415 N. Main Street, across from the Wayne County Public
Library. Enjoy homemade French toast, bacon, sausage, and a
choice of two kinds of quiche. Served with coffee, tea, and
juice, and topped off with a slice of homemade pie! Seating is
extremely limited and reservations are required. $15.00 per

Also, on
Sunday the 17, join the fun at the Wayne County Public Library,
(1406 N. Main Street) from 2:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. where there
will be refreshments, music, and holiday stories and craft
activities for the kids.
And on December 21, get ready to ring in the holiday with a
fun time at The Fireside Restaurant (5 Oregon Turnpike) with
their Holiday Weiner Roast and Sing-a-long, from 5:30 p.m. to
8:30 p.m. No reservations required.
Holiday
